The History of the Theta Nu Chapter of
Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity

The Theta Nu Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity was established April 05, 1997 on the campus of Florida A&M University. This estalishment was achieved by thirteen talented youg ladies, two patroness members and two faculty members. It was not very easy to Get SAI on FAMU's campus but these ladies hung in there.

The Name, SAI, had started to ring all over the music department, and every youg lady wanted to know more about this intriguing music fraternity for women. The music department staff, Beta Alpha, the Omicron Gamma Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the hard worker Roxanne Smith finally made some progress. The were able to pull some strings and get the Province officer, Dr. leslie Odom, to come and have a seminar. After the seminar Roxanne Smith took the initiative to contact all interested girls and call a meeting. These interested girls met for weeks after weeks. They were determined to start this organization. Then there was a deadline set for money to be sent in and that cut some of the young ladies. After all the hard work, geeting the petitioning book together, and all the test taking, Fefteen young ladies and two patroness members were installed into Sigma Alpha Iota on April 5, 1997. We now have this new hard working chapther of twenty-some ladies, by the name of Theta Nu. We also had the chance to install a pledge class of fourteen youg ladies in the Fall of 1997.
